April 13, 2012

Today was our last day in San Ignacia.  We visited the Belize Zoo which was incredible.  I had an opportunity to feed a beautiful jaguar named Junior.  He let us touch his paws and he enjoyed licking the heads of the men.  See all of my pictures to learn about all of the animals that I saw.

Junior, the Jaguar!                               Me feeding Junior!

Me holding a boa constrictor!

Very large crocodile!                 Tipar, the national animal of Belize!

More pictures to come!

  1. I'm glad to see you are feeling better! A jaguar...that's very cool. The way he is eating from your hand he looks like a giant kittycat. His sandpaper tongue (if he has one) must feel really funny when he licks your head. Nice boa btw. Did he start to constrict around your hand? I have heard that once they do that it's really hard to get them un-constricted. The pictures are really clear. It looks like your were 2 ft. away from the croc's mouth. Please tell me you used a zoom lens LOL.
Where are you going to next?

  3. Can't wait to share these with students. I actually had the chance to read your blog to a class of first graders and they loved it.

  4. Laura, I found a book today totally by chance, or more appropriately, Divine Intervention! The book is called Junior Buddy, A Jaguar's Tale. I was at the library today looking for books for the girls and just happened to see this book on the book cart. It's a level 2 book for developing readers. It talks about Junior's mother Springfield, and how Junior Buddy was raised from a cub to an adult. Maybe your school library has the book?

I hope you are having a great week! I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your pictures and hearing more stories!

    Love you,
    Zip
